If you are interested in adopting a cat from us please e-mail derby@cats.org.uk and we will send you a homing questionnaire. We ask for you to fill this out first and then we can either match you with a suitable cat or arrange an appointment for you to visit.

Adopt with confidence, Our friendly staff at Derby AC will help you choose a cat that is best suited to you, your lifestyle, and your home. When you give a home to a cat or kitten from us, you can be assured that it has been vet checked, neutered (if it is old enough), vaccinated, microchipped, and treated for fleas and worms.

We will be ensuring that all our cats are matched with potential owners who are able to provide the environment and lifestyle required by each cats individual needs.

Please be aware that if you rent we will require written consent from your landlord before we are able to match you to a potential cat/kitten.

Enquire
If you are interested in offering a cat a permanent home, we have a range of cats and kittens in our care with differing needs, once you have returned the questionnaire our staff will be happy to phone or email you to discuss what cat or kitten will be suitable for you. Photos and a video of the cat/kitten will be available for you to see.

Reserve
At this stage we will ask for proof of your address and landlord consent must have been given. Once this has been received, we can reserve the cat for you and arrange for an adoption appointment call where you will be provided with full information about the cat.

Adopt
As part of the adoption phone call we will arrange a time and day for you to collect your new addition. The final paperwork will be sent via email for you to electronically sign, 24 hours before collection.

The paperwork consists of a medical summary, adoption form, and Petplan terms for your free one month of insurance cover.

Arrangements will be made for you to pay the £75 adoption fee for cats over six months old or £95 for kittens under six months by card or cash payment when you collect from the Centre. There will also be options to purchase supplies, and make a donation if you wish. We are unable to take any other method of payment at this time.

Support
We will arrange times to catch up with you to see how your cat or kitten is getting on in their new home and provide any advice you may need. This starts from the day the cat is collected and we will check in with you at 4 and 21 days from their arrival.

At the end of the 21 days we will no longer contact you for updates, but our help doesn't end there. We're only ever a phone call away, so please don't hesitate to get in touch for any advice you might need! You may also like to consider signing up to our membership scheme which gives you access to the VetfoneTM line, and we may ask if you will be willing to participate in homing success stories articles.

Derby Adoption Centre is the largest purpose built cat centre in this area and was opened in 1998, with 100 pens to house approximately 150 cats and kittens. Since then we have had the much needed addition of our outdoor area and more recently an annex with 15 extra pens. We can now potentially have in residence up to 240 cats and kittens at any one time, unfortunately there are usually just as many waiting to come into us to find new homes.

CAMPAIGN - Assisted Neutering

Owners living in the Derbyshire & Nottinghamshire postcodes can have their cat neutered for only £10 - (this covers routine neutering and any non-neutering costs would need to be covered by the owner).

If you receive a state benefit, are on a low household income or are a full time student or pensioner, you will qualify for help. This link will take you to the main Cats Protection website.
Take a virtual tour of our centre!

You will need to visit and meet your chosen cat before you can adopt them, but to help you choose the majority of cats that are ready for new homes are available to view on this site. Once you have chosen your cat, they will be reserved for you immediately and during his next visit the vet will give them a final check over before you take them home.

We would usually expect a cat to be home with you within a week as this will then allow us to use the free pen for another cat needing a home, we also know how keen you will be to get the new cat home.  To see which cats are looking for a home click on the adopt a cat tab.
